Duration
4 sessions (online) or 2 days (onsite)
This training provides you with a good understanding of the European Commission’s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology. During the sessions, you will learn how to carry out a PEF study using SimaPro, modeling and analyzing a complete life cycle. After the training, you will have the skills to conduct your own PEF study independently.
The trainers
Context: the Environmental Footprint initiative of the European Commission and the steps taken so far.
Data: how to determine which company-specific data you need to collect, which secondary data to use and how to assess the data quality.
Hotspots: how to identify the most relevant impact categories, life cycle stages, processes and elementary flows of your product’s life cycle.
Specific modeling rules: how to model specific aspects, e.g. electricity, use phase, end of life.
PEF’s outlook: what is coming up next and what potential policy applications the EC is considering for PEF.
To get a good grasp, you will practice performing an environmental footprint study in SimaPro, using one of the PEF category rules as an example. We will take you through all the steps of a PEF study, zooming in on the PEF-specific rules for each of these steps.
Please note:
PRé has broad experience in the PEF initiative. We were part of theTechnical Helpdeskand coordinated all training activities in the PEF pilot phase. PRé also led the consortium developing themodelsof average European products and organizations. We conducted andreviewedmany PEF studies and contributed to the creation ofEF-compliant datasets. We have also beenbuilding PEF capability outside the EUthrough training combined with support. Trainers Marisa Vieira, An De Schryver and Luca Zampori have been deeply involved in PEF development since the start.
Although this course focuses on the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), most of the training and practical exercises arealso relevant for Organizational Environmental Footprint (OEF).
